The editors of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin wisely point out, “the task of renovating the natatorium would be difficult and expensive, but respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of a past generation of soldiers and sailors demand that it be given full consideration.”

Bette Midler was born in Honolulu at The Kapiolani Maternity Hospital in 1945. She went on to UH but left before achieving her degree. Presently, The Divine Miss M is living in New York and auctioning some of her dresses to benefit NY Parks that are under served. Why not approach her to help the Natatorium? Remember Elvis did two concerts in Hawaii and donated the proceeds to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. If she would lend her image to the restoration it would open doors with tourist and politicians. Bette Midler is known worldwide so perhaps tourist would donate with her endorsement.
