Remember.
That’s what Americans do on Memorial Day.
We remember. We honor. We respect fellow Americans who – asked to sacrifice everything for the rest of us – selflessly answered that call.
The 38th annual Memorial Day Weekend observance outside the War Memorial Natatorium in Waikiki takes place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 24. (That’s Sunday, not the official Monday holiday.)

There will be the usual rituals: Taps. A rifle salute. Speeches. Singing and hula. Salutes by veterans offering lei and flowers at the bronze tablet listing those from Hawaii who perished in World War I.
There will also be unusual elements to this ceremony, with members of the U.S. Olympian and Paralympians Association (including gold medalists Aaron Peirsol and Lillian “Pokey” Watson Richardson) present to recall the War Memorial Natatorium’s legendary history in international competitive swimming.
What’s really important, though: Will you be part of the ceremony? Will you and your family demonstrate your gratitude to U.S. soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who have died down through the centuries for you – and for us all?
Join the Friends of the Natatorium at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, at Hawaii’s official World War I memorial.
Let’s respect our war dead as they deserve. Let’s do them honor.
Let’s come together to remember.
